Dear Parents,
This letter is to inform you about a very serious issue that affects some of our families at Liberty Learning Center.
We have at least four children in our school who have severe allergies to peanut butter. On Friday, September 5, one of these children came in contact with another child who had peanut butter on his shirt. Just by touching his shirt, the allergic child had a severe reaction. Fortunately, his mom had alerted me and I knew how to handle this reaction. However, it was scary for all concerned, especially the child.
Friday afternoon I put up signs removing peanut butter from our Center. By Friday evening, more than a few parents complained that their children only ate peanut butter.
I understand how fussy children can be when it comes to eating. I also must protect any and every child in our center from harm.
Therefore, I am asking that you try not to send peanut butter in with your child for lunch or snack. However, if in fact, peanut butter is the ONLY thing your child will eat, please let us know he/she has it. (EACH AND EVERY DAY that he/she has it!) When you sign your child in, also sign him/her in as having peanut butter. This will help us keep any and all children who suffer from allergies safe.
Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mary Hourihan
